Alya is a health equity data strategist at Independence Blue Cross. She leads a team of public health researchers in the identification and measurement of health inequities for the Corporate Health Equity Strategy. She also directs company-wide research using a health equity lens. She is a thought leader in embedding principles of community-based public health and human rights for analytics in the health care sector. Her predominant focus is on data for health equity, including building robust data infrastructure, developing and implementing new health equity data tools, and conducting research through internal and external research collaboratives (Accelerate Health Equity with Penn Medicine), all for the purposes of better serving Independence members. This work includes analytics on racial inequities in member care utilization, chronic disease burden and treatment of chronic conditions, benefit expansion, and more.
Alya earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health from Drexel University.
